This section is designed to provide information to assist you in planning an installation. Full details and guidance on performing an installation are available separately.
Installation of Servers
Installations of SiteStream can consist of a number of servers, depending on the needs and size of the customer. Each server will have specific requirements for operating system and service packs, as well as a wide range of configuration options.
We will visit customer sites to perform the installation or receive hardware in our offices for configuration.
Installation of Client PCs
Client installation is generally a simpler task and can be carried out easily by the customer.
Land and Build
There are a variety of ways that the thick client software can be installed on the client:
Individual Installations by Support Staff or End-users
An installation program is supplied that has to be run on each PC. This is very simple to do and the instructions for running it from a central location are easily understood by most computer users. Alternatively, a member of the IT department can run the program on each PC.
Installation Using SMS tools
Although an SMS package is not supplied for SiteStream this may be the most efficient approach for larger installations. Please contact us for further advice.
Installation Using Windows Installer
If Windows 2000 is being used on the server, then the facilities of the Windows Installer can be used. The necessary install packages will be supplied.
Windows Installer is a system that allows comprehensive control of the software installed on each PC. Software built in this way can be installed on demand according to the PC or user, can be self-repairing, and also installs and uninstalls cleanly.
Currently only a Windows 2000 client supports all of these features, although Windows NT 4 will allow the installation to take place, but without the other functions.
Sales and Care
No client installation is needed for these modules as they are "zero footprint" and run within the client's browser software.
