Client Requirements
This section specifies the operating system, service packs
(SP's) and other software requirements for both thick-client and thin-client
modules. The minimum hardware specification for client machines is also
detailed.
For Thick Client Modules
Software
Windows 2000 Professional SP3+
OR
Windows XP Professional SP1+
Minimum Hardware
Pentium III 1GHz
192MB RAM (Windows 2000) or 256MB RAM (Windows XP)
At least 300MB hard disk space
CD ROM Drive
Recommended Hardware
Pentium 4 1.6GHz+
256MB RAM
At least 300MB hard disk space
CD ROM Drive
For Thin Client Modules
Software
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5+
Hardware
Pentium III
700MHz 192MB RAM
Connectivity
The software has been designed for connectivity of thick clients to servers with a normal network speed (at least 10Mbps) to yield best results. However, the SiteStream thick client modules will work adequately at significantly lower transmission speeds but with a corresponding loss of performance in some areas. Generally, however, once data is transferred to a thick client, no more network activity is required until the user has finished making any changes.
As a general rule, thick clients should be connected with the highest speed link that is cost effectively possible. The effect of multiple concurrent clients using a low bandwidth connection needs to be considered, as do any other activities requiring the connection (e.g. e-mail, file access, etc.).
SiteStream thin client modules are designed to work over a 56Kbps modem at minimum, but obviously any improvement in connection will still be beneficial to the overall performance of the system.
